Termite

If you plan to buy or sell a property and need a termite inspection as a condition of sale, our inspectors can provide expert detection services.

Wood destroying insects consists of the subterranean termite, the black carpenter ant, and the carpenter bee and the powder post beetle. Each is identifiable with its own characteristics. The subterranean termite needs to be in contact with humidity from moist soil. This is done with mud tubes from the soil, up the masonry walls to their food source: rim joists, floor joists etc.

The black carpenter ant forages outside and excavates in homes leaving discarded particles at its entrance. A colony can gnaw its way through a structure, weakening it to a point of collapse.

The carpenter bee excavates a half-inch opening and turns to tunnel a 4 to 6 inch extension to lay her eggs. She does come back the following year and digs further making the damage more significant.

The powder post beetle attacks seasoned hardwoods, tasting it in order to nourish her offspring. She leaves numerous tiny holes, 1/16 to ¼ inch in diameter with a powder like sawdust.

At House to Home Inspection Services, we inspect those visible and accessible areas for wood destroying Insects to better inform our clients of a home’s condition.
